Healthcare Entrepreneurs Meetup

Atlanta Ventures
By Atlanta Ventures

On April 23rd, 50+ entrepreneurs joined us on Zoom for an insightful morning event! This Healthcare Entrepreneur Meetup was not one to miss: HealthIT folks joined A.T. GimbelJames Lewis, and Caleb Szubski of Woven Health Collective as they shared how they each started in the healthcare space.

These Meetups are part of an ongoing series of talks about Healthcare in Atlanta, with the objective of making Atlanta the premier place to start and grow a HealthIT business. The goal of these meetups is to facilitate connections, hear from industry professionals, and truly dig deeper into Healthcare problems that Atlanta entrepreneurs can help solve.

We started the morning with a good ol’ fashioned Zoom Breakout Room networking session to discuss everyone's fun family vacation traditions. It was a great opportunity to connect with new faces and reconnect with familiar ones before we dove into the event.

James and Caleb first founded 11TEN Innovation Partners in 2018 to help companies in the healthcare industry innovate and commercialize new technologies. Initially focused on bridging gaps between fragmented healthcare sectors, the company started by facilitating meaningful connections across the ecosystem. What began as pro bono work for Emory Healthcare quickly evolved into paid projects, allowing the organization to scale.

Over time, it transformed into a services firm positioned at the center of a multi-party innovation funnel, and was acquired by Woven Health Collective—a healthcare innovation ecosystem and strategy consulting firm.

Key Takeaways

  1. Build trust and relationships in healthcare. Trust is the "currency" - taking the time to understand stakeholders' needs and collaborate is key.
  2. Say 'no' faster. Focus on saying "no" to stay aligned with your mission. As a startup grows, it's important to be selective about opportunities to maintain culture and focus.
  3. Surround yourself with complementary skills and perspectives. Diverse teams with different backgrounds can have healthy debates to drive better outcomes.

"There was just a point in my career where I wanted to be an entrepreneur… I want to own my own destiny, and I just want to start."
